In 1993, the Royal Mint issued a limited quantity of Gold Proof 50p pieces to celebrate the UK's Presidency of the EU's Council of Ministers. This Gold Proof 50p piece features a design with a table and twelve chairs for the Council of Ministers, with the UK at the top chair. This coin is of the older style Gold Proof 50p piece, meaning it is contains more gold that its modern counterpart, and is larger at 30mm diameter.
