A collectable grade silver florin of Queen Victoria dated 1849 commonly known as "godless" type due to the lack of the words "Dei Gratia" (by the grace of God) in the legend which caused a controversy when the coin was first released. 1849 was the first year that the Florin was introduced, and it marked the first move towards the decimalisation of British coinage since it is valued at 1/10th of a pound.
The obverse features the bust of a crowned Queen Victoria, with long braided hair and wearing a dress embroidered with roses, shamrocks and thistles. The small 'W.W.' to the bottom right of the bust are the initials of the engraver William Wyon. On the reverse are the crowned cruciform shields of England (twice), Scotland and Ireland with the rose, thistle and shamrock in the angles.
