A collectable grade silver florin of Queen Victoria dated 1863, MDCCCLXIII in roman numerals affectionately know as "Gothic" type with die number 53 below bust. The florin was introduced in 1849 and was the first move towards decimalisation for British currency as it was worth 1/10th of a pound, or 2 shillings.
The reverse has crowned cruciform shields bearing three lions for England at the top and bottom, the lion rampant for Scotland, and the harp for Ireland. The angles contain the English rose (again featured twice), Scottish thistle and Irish shamrock.
