A collectable Silver Fourpence (aka Groat) of Queen Mary dated 1553-4 with the mint mark "Pomegranate", long cross through Royal shield to the reverse.

Queen Mary was the First Queen Regent of England. She ruled for one year before marrying Phillip of Spain. During her 5 year reign, she condemned 280 religious dissenters to be burnt at the stake, initiating the nickname of "Bloody Mary". This Silver Groat has a small edge chip, but good otherwise. This is now becoming a scarce coin.

Condition: Almost Very Fine.

Obverse: Crowned bust of Queen Mary facing left. Mint mark "Pomegranate" MARIE D G ANG FRA Z HIB REGINA

Reverse: Long cross fourchee over royal shield. VERITAS TEMPORIS FILIA
