A very collectable, high-grade, hammered silver Groat of King Philip and Queen Mary, dated 1554-1558 with the mint mark of "Lis". The obverse has the crowned bust of Queen Mary facing left. The reverse shows a cross over the Royal shield. This exceptional grade coin with even tone and strong "eye appeal" was struck just after Queen Mary Tudor - "Bloody Mary" - married Phillip, the King of Spain, to jointly rule.

King Philip does not appear on the coin itself, however his name is included in the edge inscription on the obverse which means 'Philip and Mary by the Grace of God King and Queen'.

Obverse
Crowned bust of Queen Mary facing left. Mint mark "Lis". PHILIP.ET.MARIA.D G. REX.ET.REGINA.

Reverse
Cross Fourch'ee over Royal shield of arms. Mint mark "Lis" POSUIMUS DEUM ADIUTO NOS.
