BullionByPost is proud to offer numismatic collectors a growing range of rare collectable coins, including this hammered Silver Groat (also called Fourpence) of Henry VI 1422-1461, in about very fine condition. This Silver Groat features a Crowned Bust of Henry VI on the obverse and a Long Cross on the reverse with an outer legend reading POSVI DEVM ADIVTORE MEVM and an inner legend of CIVITAS LONDON. Various different busts exist, with very minor changes. The actual product you will receive is pictured - point on the images to zoom.

Born in Windsor Castle in December 1421, Henry VI acceded to the throne when he was just nine months old! During his childhood the war of the Roses broke out. He survived to reign for almost forty years even though he was a mild and weak monarch.  He was murdered in the Tower of London on the orders of Edward IV.

These silver portrait groats (aka Fourpence) struck during his reign and have become an important coin in this series.
