A mounted gold Guinea of King Charles II, dated 1665. Guineas started with Charles II after the restoration, and are considered a precursor to the Sovereign. This series of coins are very hard to locate.
A Guinea did originally start off with a value of £1, but some years later it was increased to the more common value of £1.1.0. First struck in 1663, and named after Guinea where some of the gold came from. We recommend you study the pictures of the coin before making a purchase, as the coin is currently in a mount.
Obverse
Third Laurel Bust of Charles II.
Reverse
Crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles.
