A gold Guinea of Charles II, dated 1679. As more and more Sovereign collectors are completing their collections, they are turning to Guineas - which started with Charles the second after the restoration. This series of coins are very hard to locate. A Guinea originally started with a value of £1, but some years later it was increased to the more common value of £1.1.0. First struck in 1663, the Guinea is named for the source of where some of the gold came from.
