BullionByPost are proud to offer this beautiful gold Guinea of King George III in almost extremely fine condition. The obverse of the coin features the third laureate head of George III facing right, the reverse has the crowned royal coat of arms. George III was the third Hanoverian King of Great Britain, and reigned for forty years. During his reign Britain emerged as the leading power in Europe. He suffered from recurrent fits of madness and after 1810, his son acted as regent. The year this coin was minted colonists in Boston raided three British ships throwing their contents (several hundred chests of tea) into the harbour. The protest against the tax on tea and against the monopoly granted to the East India Company eventually led to the loss of Britain's American Colonies. In the same year the East India Company Act brought the Companies possessions in the east under the sovereignty of the Crown.
Obverse
Laureate bust of George III facing right, with the inscription 'GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA' (George III by the grace of God).
Reverse

The inscription reads 'M B F ET H REX F D B ET L D S R I A T ET E' (King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Lueneburg, Arch Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire).
