A very collectable, early hammered, silver Penny of King Harthacnut. A very old coin from the late Anglo-Saxon period of the first Kings of England. This coin is of the "Arm and Sceptre" type, and was struck by the moneyer named "Tidraed" at the Stamford mint between the years 1035-1042. In this period, moneyers had to have their name on the coin to assure quality control. Any coins found to be sub-standard would result in severe consequences for the moneyer, even going so far as hanging! This coin has a slightly crimped flan and some double striking to the reverse, otherwise a collectable and extremely rare coin.

Arm and scepte type. Bust with diadem facing left with sceptre in front. CNUT REX.

Voided short cross with quadrilateral with pellets at corners over. TIDRED ON DEOTV.
