A rare, high grade Silver milled Shilling of King James II, dated 1685. The obverse features the first laureate bust, facing left, and on the reverse, a Crowned cruciform shield of arms. King James the Second took the throne after the death of his brother King Charles the Second, in 6th Feb 1685. This coin was struck in the months following his succession and, as a predominant Catholic King, caused much conflict during his reign, to the point he fled to France in exile some 3 years later. This rare coin previously LCGS40 graded has dark even background toning to the obverse, highlighting a good bust portrait of King James II.

First bust laureate and draped bust facing left. JACOBVS.II.DEI.GRATIA.

Crowned cruciform shield of arms, 1685 MAG.BR.FRA.ET.HIB.REX.
