A collectable grade Silver Milled Double Florin of Queen Victoria dated 1887. On the obverse the Queens "jubilee" bust faces left. The obverse features crowned cruciform shields with sceptres in the angles. These Double Florins where only struck for three years between 1887 to 1890 and became unpopular with the public and commerce alike, due to there similar size to the Crown. This "Wretched Coin". This was the comment in an article in the Daily Telegraph June 27 1887, which heavily criticised its arrival. Only slightly smaller than a Crown piece (5 shillings), the Double Florin (4 shilling piece) was often passed in the dingy pubs to the barmaids as the larger coin, hence the nickname the "barmaids ruin".

Jubilee bust facing left. "J.E.B. below trunction for Joseph Edger Boehm. VICTORIA DEI GRATIA

Crowned cruciform shields, Garter star at the centre, four sceptres in the angles. Variation "Arabic 1" in the date. 1887 FID:DEF:BRITT:REG:
