A very collectable, early hammered, silver Penny of King Cnut. A very old coin from the late Anglo-Saxon period of the first Kings of England. This coin is of the "Pointed helmet" type, and was struck by the moneyer named "Winedeag" at the Canterbury mint between the years 1016-1035. In this period, moneyers had to have their name on the coin to assure quality control. Any coins found to be sub-standard would result in severe consequences for the moneyer, even going so far as hanging! This coin of good strike, flan slightly crimped and has a couple of "peck" marks (common antiquated nicks or test marks on early coins).
Obverse

Reverse
