A very collectable, early hammered, silver Penny of King Cnut. A very old coin from the late Anglo-Saxon period of the first Kings of England. This coin is of the "Quatrefoil" type, and was struck by the moneyer named "Leofsige" at the Cambridge mint between the years 1016-1035. In this period, moneyers had to have their name on the coin to assure quality control. Any coins found to be substandard would result in severe consequences for the moneyer, even going so far as hanging! A thousand years old, this coin is well struck and "bright", with strong eye appeal.

Quatrefoil type. Crowned late style bust "C" with pointed nose, facing left within quatrefoil nearly a circle. CNUT REX ANGLORUM.
Reverse
Quatrefoil with pellet at apex of each cusp, voided long cross. LIOFSIG ON GRAN.
