A collectable, high grade Silver Penny of King Cnut struck in the mint of Stamford by the moneyer "Morolf" in 1016-1035. The moneyers of the day had to assign their name to the coin to insure the right quality and weight of Silver, and if caught with sub-standard issues they faced severe consequences, such as being hanged. King Cnut was a Viking King and treated the Danes and Saxons as equals. His modernisation of this Countries laws brought much stability and wealth. This coin would have been used in the growing daily commerce of the time.
