A collectable, hammered silver Penny of King John, struck between the years 1199 through to 1216. This coin is of the class type '5c'; the obverse features a crude style face, with the words "HENRICVS." There were no coins struck in England with the name John; in fact all the short cross coinage series from Henry II in 1180, King Richard and King John, up to King Henry III in 1272, all had the name of "HENRICVS" stamped on them. The reverse shows the name of the moneyer "Rauf" who struck the coin at the mint of London. This coin is in very fine condition, and has excellent facial details, making it a good example of this class.
