Struck in the reign of George I this quarter guinea had a value of five shillings and threepence (in today’s money 27 1/2p). Only struck for one year 1718 in George I’s time. The size of coin made it unpopular, lose one of these and it was a lot of money, so like so many coins over history, minting was stopped. These are rare coins and worth buying while still available.
