A very collectable, hammered silver Shilling of King Philip and Queen Mary, dated 1555 and struck at the London Mint.

The obverse features the facing busts of the King and Queen with a crown over, and the date split between. The reverse shows the crowned ornate shield of Royal Arms with the value of XII indicating twelve pence.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Philip and Mary by the Grace of God, King of England", and on the reverse "We have made God my helper" a Psalm from the Bible. This coin is in very fine condition, and is iconic due to being one of the only English coins with facing busts.

Profile busts facing each other. Date spit either side. PHILIP.ET.MARIA.D.G.REX.ET.REGINA. ANG.

Crowned quartered shield of arms, value each side of crown. POSVIMVS.DEVM.ADVTOREM.NOSTRVM.
