A very scarce milled silver Pattern Farthing of King Charles II. On the obverse is a short-hair styled bust of King Charles the Second, and the date 1665 below. The reverse features Britannia seated.
The Farthings issued for circulation in this period were struck in copper and tin. This Pattern Farthing, struck in silver, was made to evaluate its merits on design and purpose and was not approved by the mint for commercial release. These Pattern coins make a fascinating collection of historical importance and to study the development of Britain's numismatics.
