A collectable grade hammered silver Sixpence of king Charles the First with the mintmark of 'Anchor' showing being struck in 1638 or 1639. The obverse features the crowned bust facing left known as the 'Aberystwyth' type with VI behind indicating Sixpence. The reverse shows cross over a square topped shield of royal arms. This silver sixpence was struck in the early part of the civil war between Royalists and Parliamentarians and could well have been carried in a pocket at one of those battles. This coin in very fine condition with a full flan and even mid grey tone an excellent example.
