A collectable grade Hammered Silver Shilling of King Charles the First with the mint mark of "Anchor" showing being struck in 1638 or 1639. The obverse features the crowned bust facing left with VI behind indicating Sixpence. The reverse shows cross over a square topped shield of royal arms. This Silver Shilling was struck in the early part of the civil war between Royalists and Parliamentarians and could well have been carried in a pocket at one of those battles.
