A rare, milled gold Third-Guinea of King George III, dated 1809. The obverse features the fifth laureate head facing right. The reverse shows the royal crown above the date.
Minted only during the reign of George III, the 1/3 Guinea was struck from 1797 to 1813. These small gold coins of George III were the last striking of the denomination. At the time, they were known as seven shilling pieces. A gap of four years ensued before the sovereign appeared in the currency.
