A collectable Silver Twopence (aka Half Groat) of King James the Second. The crowned bust facing right with II behind it indicates Halfgroat (Twopence). A large royal shield of arms to the reverse, with the mint mark "Thistle" above for the year 1603-4.

This coin was made leading up to the famous gunpowder plot, when on the 5th November 1605, there was a failed attempt to blow up the house of lords and remove King James the First from the throne.

Condition: Very Fine.

Obverse: First crowned bust of James I facing right with II behind for denomination of Halfgroat or Twopence. I D G ROSA SINE SPINA

Reverse: Large square shield of royal arms with mint mark "Thistle" above in dotted circle
