This gold Sovereign features a shield on its reverse (commonly called the 'Shield Back'), rather than the usual Sovereign design of St George slaying a dragon.
Queen Victoria's 'Young Head' portrait appears on the front (obverse) side of the coin. The W.W. engraver mark appears at the bottom of the Queen's neck, denoting sculptor William Wyon.
Please note, as this product is our choice of year the image of the coin reverse above has been photoshopped to not show a date. You will receive a coin in a gift box from any year between 1838 and 1887.
