The brand new 2022 Britannia 1oz gold coin, provided in an attractive, oak gift box.
This coin are part of The Royal Mint's new ultra secure Britannia bullion range. The coins are 24 carat gold (999.9 fineness), and have four new secure design elements:
The background of the coin has micro detailing to give the image of waves behind the lady Britannia. If you angle the coin, these waves appear to move.
Britannia's shield now has additional line work detailing.
A new inner rim has been added with more Latin text, reading 'Decus Et Tutamen', which means 'An ornament and a safeguard'.
A new hologram has been added which shows a Trident at first - in keeping with the naval theme - but which changes to a padlock when the coin is tilted; a not-so-subtle reference to the coin's new security.
Philip Nathan's classic engraving features lady Britannia on the reverse, while the obverse of the coin which bears the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (first introduced to British coinage in 2015).
Gold Britannias are the most popular one ounce gold coin for larger UK-based private investors, as they are both Capital Gains Tax free (CGT exempt) and VAT-free as investment gold.
