Brexit. What Happens Next?

The EU (Notification Of Withdrawal) Bill has successfully navigated its first hurdle, but much of the course is still to be run.

Here's what happens next:

2 February: Prime Minister Theresa May will publish the Government's strategy for leaving the European Union. She has said the issue of EU nationals living in the UK will be among those "referenced" in the White Paper.

6 February: MPs will attempt to revise the short bill and push through amendments at committee stage. Debates continue until…

8 February: final vote and if the bill is passed it goes to the House of Lords.

20 & 21 February: Parliament returns from recess and peers debate the bill.

27 February and 1 March: More debate in the Lords and a vote on amendments. If peers vote on an amendment then it will have to go back to the House of Commons.

7 March: Bill expected to finish in the House of Lords - will then go for Royal Assent.

8-9 March: European Council summit in Brussels. The PM could use the occasion to formally trigger Article 50 and start EU divorce proceedings.

31 March: Theresa May's Article 50 deadline.
