This Silver Halfcrown features the George II Old Laurel Head Bust on the obverse and a Crowned Cruciform Shield on the reverse.
At one point in the reign of George II, piracy became almost official. Some of the treasure that Admiral Anson seized during his circumnavigation of the globe in 1740-44 and by other 'pirateers' was made in to coinage which has the word Lima below the King's bust to celebrate the successful harassment of the Spanish colonies in the New World.
