A collectable Silver Twopence (aka Half Groat) of King Charles the First from the mid 17th century. The mint mark "Triangle" on both sides indicates being struck at the famous Tower mint in London, either in 1639 or 1640.

King Charles the Firsts style of governing led to the English civil war of 1642-1651. This was between the Royalists, supporting Charles I against the Parliamentarians, known as the Roundheads. This Silver Halfgroat could well of been carried into battle.

Obverse: Crowned bust of Charles I facing left with II behind for Halfgroat. CARLOVS D G BF ET REX

Reverse:  Round garnished shield with inner circles. Mint mark "Triangle" CHRISTO AUSPICE REGNO
