2023 1oz Ra Silver Coin Egyptian Gods

The Pobjoy Mint has released an exciting new series of coins featuring Egyptian gods to commemorate 250 years since the birth of British Egyptologist Dr Thomas Young. This third coin in this series is the 2023 Ra 1oz silver coin and features the sun-god Ra.

Depicted as a falcon-headed man wearing a sun disk headdress, Ra was believed to govern the daily journey of the sun across the sky, symbolizing life, light, and creation. As the supreme solar deity, he represented warmth, vitality, and divine power, and his cult gained prominence during the Old Kingdom period. Ra was closely associated with kingship and was considered the creator of the world and all living beings. He was also believed to possess the ability to grant life and blessings, while his fierce and vengeful form, the sun god Atum-Ra, represented his role in punishing evildoers. Ra's mythological significance and enduring worship throughout ancient Egypt solidified his status as a central and revered figure in their religious beliefs.

This 2023 Ra 1oz silver coin contains one troy ounce of 999 fine silver, with a mintage limited to only 5,000 coins. On the reverse Ra is displayed with decoration with hieroglyphics behind him including his name in hieroglyphics appearing in a circle. It also includes a 'P' privy mark denoting Pobjoy Mint coins. The reverse displays the coat of arms of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the coin is backed by the Sierra Leone government and is considered a sovereign coin.
