A 1987 1/2oz gold Britannia coin from The Royal Mint, with a face value of £50.00. Due to their status as British Legal tender they are exempt from CGT, whilst also being VAT-free as investment gold. This coin contains half a troy ounce (15.6 grams) of fine gold and is struck to 22 carat purity as was common for this series at the time.
1987 was the first year of the Britannia series, making this half ounce coin a special part of UK bullion coin history.
