1R Rand Years
Below are our specific year 1 Rand gold coins, produced in South Africa by the South African Mint. The 1 Rand gold coin is struck to the same specifications as the British Half Sovereign, and was introduced in 1961 as circulating currency to replace that coin. Featuring a springbok on the reverse of the coin, the Rand coins share a similarity to the Krugerrand which would soon become the de facto bullion coin for the country.
