1993 Half Sovereigns were issued only in proof form - 2,910 were issued. This proof has been struck using specially selected blanks and highly polished dies. During striking, the coinage dies exert enormous pressure on the coin blank, with at least two separate blows (or strikes), ensuring that the impression has extra clarity.

Gold Half Sovereigns are very attractive to UK investors; due to their status as British Legal tender, they are exempt from capital gains tax (CGT).
