This 2004 Proof gold £5 coin (aka Quintuple Sovereign, or Crown) was issued to commemorate the Entente Cordiale - a peace treaty between Britain and France in 1904. The deal was the first formal agreement after centuries of conflict and the recent Napoleonic Wars. The Royal Mint produced 2,500 of these collectable coins.
The obverse side of the coin was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. It is the fourth portrait of the Queen. On the back is David Gentleman's design of Britannia and and her French counterpart Marianne, with the inscription "Entente Cordiale" separated by the dates 1904 and 2004.
This proof gold coin comes boxed with a certificate of authenticity from the Royal Mint.
