American Silver Eagle Coins
The American silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States, struck by the United States Mint since 1986. It was introduced to draw down the national defence silver stockpile without depressing the market, and has since become one of the most heavily traded silver coins in the world.
The obverse carries Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty, taken from the half dollar of 1916. The reverse used John Mercanti's heraldic eagle until 2021, when a Type 2 design by Emily Damstra replaced it with a bald eagle carrying an oak branch. Demand has at times outrun supply: the Mint rationed coins for eighteen months from 2013, and again through 2020 and 2021. The American Gold Eagle is its gold counterpart, introduced in the same year.

The American silver Eagle is an American silver coin struck by the United States Mint in 999 fine silver. At 40.6mm it is a little wider than most one ounce silver coins, and it has been produced at the Philadelphia, San Francisco and West Point mints.
