Half Sovereign George V 1911 - 1926

Below is our selection of George V gold Half Sovereigns. Reigning from 1910 until 1936, Half Sovereigns were only produced between 1911 - 1926 due to less need for the coin and the changing landscape of using precious metals in British coinage after the First World War.

George V Half Sovereign

The George V Half Sovereign was a relatively common coin (but have become scarcer over time compared to Victorian examples), being the half pound currency for Britain and much of the Empire at the time. As such, coins were struck not only in London, but also in South Africa and Australia. George V Half Sovereigns produced internationally will feature a small letter known as a mint mark to denote which mint struck the coin.

The George V Half Sovereign is still generally suitable for investment purposes, and many are sold at relatively low premiums for their age. Coins in exceptional condition, and from rarer mints will occasionally sell at a higher price however.
