0.5g Gold Coins
The half gram gold coin is the smallest investment coin we stock. It holds 0.5 grams of 999.9 fine gold, roughly a sixtieth of a troy ounce, and is usually supplied sealed in a card to protect a coin that would otherwise be easy to damage or lose.
Unlike the ounce based sizes, the half gram is not a size the major mints produce as a matter of course. The Perth Mint is the only one to make it a regular part of a bullion range, through the Mini Roo, so the choice here is deliberately narrow rather than a small version of every series.
Like all investment grade gold, these coins are exempt from VAT, so the price you pay reflects the gold content and a small premium rather than being inflated by sales tax.

The Mini Roo is the bullion option, carrying the kangaroo imagery used across the Perth Mint's flagship series. The half gram gold Lunar coins are proof issues struck for the Chinese zodiac year, so they are bought as much for the design as for the gold.
Anyone buying for weight rather than as a present will do considerably better on premium one step up, at a tenth of an ounce, and better again at a full ounce.
