George IV Laureate Head 1821-1825

The first design of Sovereigns produced during King George IV's reign, known as the Laureate Head due to the Laureate wreath crown. Coins again featured the initials of Mint Master William Wellesley Pole (WWP) and designer Benedetto Pistrucci (BP), but with a new Shield Back reverse introduced instead of Pistrucci's St George. This was by Frenchman Jean Baptiste Merlen (JBM).
