George IV Laureate Head 1821-1825
The first design of Sovereigns produced during King George IV's reign, these coins are known as the 'Laureate Head' due to the Laureate wreath crown. Coins again featured the initials of Mint Master William Wellesley Pole (WWP) and designer Benedetto Pistrucci (BP), but with a new Shield Back reverse introduced instead of Pistrucci's St George and the Dragon design. This was by Frenchman Jean Baptiste Merlen (JBM).
George IV Laureate Head Sovereigns were produced in the millions but good condition examples are rare to find these days, making them suitable for collectors rather than investors. All of our George IV gold Sovereigns will have been tested by our team for authenticity, and include free, fully insure delivery.
