Given the somewhat chaotic nature of Belgium’s history it is unsurprising that its coins are also limited in variety. The coins of Belgium were largely the coins of the ruling country. The most readily available Belgian coins are of the Franc denomination. These typically show Leopold I or Leopold II. In more recent years though Belgium produces ECU coins as part of its membership in the European Economic Community.
