Debased Silver Coins (.500)
At BullionByPost we offer a broad range of .500 purity silver coins, produced by the Royal Mint between 1920 and 1946. These coin are a half and half mix of silver and typically copper, though other metals were used such as nickel and zinc.
Prior to this, British silver coins were minted at .925 purity (Sterling Silver) but pressure on silver supply and the costs following the First World War meant that the UK debased its silver currency in order to be more affordable for the state.
