United Arab Emirates Coins
The United Arab Emirates is a country in the Middle-East consisting of seven ‘emirates’ or territories. The boundaries are complex, with numerous enclaves within the various emirates. Each one is governed by a ruler and the seven together form the Federal Supreme Council, with one of the rulers serving as President.
The Emirati dirham is the official currency of the UAE and was introduced in 1973. Prior to this they used the Bahraini dinar.

The UAE has traces of habitation dating back to the very emergence of humanity. It became a British Protectorate in 1819 and was known as the Trucial States. After declaring independence in 1971 six of the emirates joined, and the seventh a year later.
The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates was founded shortly after declaring independence and is responsible for the production of currency and commemorative gold coins.
