Dutch Gold Coin History
The Royal Dutch Mint is based in Utrecht and has been the sole legal manufacturer of Dutch coins since 1807. The mint was founded by King Louis Napoleon, brother of the French Emperor and General, who believed a single state mint was preferable to various trading cities having their own mints.
Since the transfer to the euro the Royal Dutch Mint produces coins for foreign national banks, along with commemorative coins for collectors.
