Description

The British Half Crown pre 1947 minted in .500 silver (50% silver and 50% copper Alloy).

Some 352,000,000 (2,500 tons) of these were minted for use as British currency pre 1947 (1920-1946) making this a well known and recognisable coin.

Random Year of our choice - you cannot choose a specific year or design. Coins are in fair condition and have been circulated so may have some marks present. This does not affect the bullion value of the silver and this is intended as a bullion investment product.

First issued in 1526, the Half Crown has been struck in both gold and silver forms and has remained part of the monetary system under 22 different British Monarchs. Since 1816 it has been issued in it's current size and weight (32.3mm and 14.14g). In 1920 the silver alloy was changed from sterling .925 silver to .500 silver, before becoming a cupronickel only coin 1947-1967. The coin was withdrawn from circulation in 1970 and demonetized prior to decimalisation in 1971.

Each coin contains 7.07g of fine silver so it can be considered a similar unit to the 1/4oz (7.78g).

The coins 1920-1936 bear the left-facing effigy of George V by Bertram Mackennal. Those dated 1937-1946 bear the left-facing effigy of George VI by Thomas Humphrey Paget.
