James I Coins

James I, also known as James VI of Scotland, was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots. He was the first English king from the House of Stuart, and succeeded as the next legitimate male heir to the line of succession thanks to his great-grandmother Margaret Tudor; sister of Henry VIII. Crowned in Scotland in 1567, James ruled just Scotland until 1603, and then ruled both Scotland and England until his death in 1625.

It was the former monarch, Elizabeth I, who ordered the execution of James I's mother and her sister, Mary, so it's somewhat ironic that Mary's son would be the next heir to the throne.
