Our pre-owned 1/4oz silver Britannia coins may be from any year of issue. These have been struck by The Royal Mint from 2021 onwards. As a pre-owned product we cannot guarantee which year you will receive as this is dependent on our current stock.

These 1/4oz silver Britannia coins are UK legal tender with a face value of 50 pence, which makes them exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents. Any profit you make when you sell is yours in full, however far the silver price has moved in the meantime. That exemption does not extend to bullion bars, or to coins from overseas mints. For a larger holding, or for anyone who expects to sell in stages over several years, that can be worth considerably more than the premium saved on a non-exempt product. Tax treatment depends on your own circumstances and on current HMRC rules.

Each 1/4oz silver Britannia coin is guaranteed to contain a quarter of a troy ounce of 999 fine silver, and is legal tender with a face value of 50 pence. The metal content is identical to that of a new coin, only the packaging and presentation differ. Every pre-owned coin is checked and tested by our experienced in-house team before being offered for sale. As a second-hand product, these coins are supplied without their original mint packaging, capsules or certificates. Larger quantities will be supplied in tubes of 19 wherever possible.

The appearance and condition will vary between individual coins. These cosmetic imperfections, and the absence of any original certificate, do not affect the intrinsic value of the precious metal. We offer the same buyback rate as we would for the equivalent new coin, based on the precious metal content.
