2005 Gold Half Sovereign Elizabeth II Fourth Head

The 2005 Half Sovereign is a British gold coin, minted by the Royal Mint. The weight of the coin is 3.99 grams with a fineness of 916.7 (22 carat gold), this means it contains 3.6612 grams of pure gold. The diameter of the coin is 19.3 mm. The Half Sovereigns have a face value of 50 Pence (1/2 a Pound) and are legal tender in the UK.

Obverse: The obverse of the Queen Elizabeth II 2005 Gold 1/2 Sovereign features the fourth head portrait, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. This effigy of Queen Elizabeth II shows her profile facing right, wearing a diamond tiara. It is the fourth official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to be used on coins minted by the Royal Mint. The sculptor's initials, 'IRB', are visible at the bottom of the head.

Reverse: The reverse of the 2005 Gold Half Sovereign presents a modern interpretation of Saint George and the Dragon to mark the Queen's Jubilee. The design is by Timothy Noad, and the sculptor's initials, T.N., and the year of issue are located next to the dragon's wing.
