2025 Quarter Sovereign - Last of the Rose Gold

The 2025 Quarter Sovereign is a British gold coin, minted by the Royal Mint. The weight of the coin is 1.997 grams with a fineness of 916.7 (22 carat gold), this means it contains 1.8306 grams of pure gold. The diameter of the coin is 13.5 mm. The Quarter Sovereigns have a face value of 25 Pence (1/4 of a Pound) and are legal tender in the UK.

Last of the Rose Gold: The 2025 coins were the last Sovereigns to be struck in the distinctive rose gold hue. Historically, Sovereigns contained a higher proportion of silver, giving them a lighter color, but since 2000, the Royal Mint incorporated more copper into the alloy, giving modern Sovereigns their distinctive rose hue. The 2025 edition was the last year this classic coin was issued in its unique rose gold finish, marking the end of an era.

The coin has no mintmark, indicating it was struck by The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, Wales.

Obverse: The obverse of the King Charles III 2025 Gold 1/4 Sovereign features the King's official portrait, designed by Martin Jennings. This effigy of King Charles III shows his profile facing left, without a crown. This is the first official portrait of Charles III to be used on coins minted by The Royal Mint. The sculptor's initials, 'M.J.', are visible at the bottom of the head.

The inscription on the coin reads 'CHARLES III.DEI.GRA.REX.FID.DEF'.

Reverse: The reverse of the 2025 Gold Quarter Sovereign features the traditional design of Saint George and the dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci, as well as the sculptor's initials B.P. and the year of issue.

Since the year 2000 the Royal Mint incorporated more copper into the alloy giving modern sovereigns their distinctive pinkish or rose colour. The 2025 edition will be the last year that this classic coin is issued in its unique rose gold finish, marking the close of an era.
