Tenth ounce gold coins hold 3.11 grams of gold. They are the smallest size produced across the mainstream bullion ranges, and the usual entry point for anyone buying a recognised investment coin for the first time.
All of the coins listed below hold the same tenth of an ounce. The 22 carat coins weigh more in total because of the copper or silver alloyed with them, while the 24 carat coins are pure gold throughout.
Like all investment grade gold, these coins are exempt from VAT, so the price you pay reflects the gold content and a small premium rather than being inflated by sales tax.
Gold Britannia coins are British legal tender, which makes them exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents no matter how many you buy or sell. Because tenth ounce coins are often bought a few at a time over several years, that exemption can matter a great deal by the time a holding is sold.

The Chinese Panda differs slightly. China reweighted the series into metric sizes in 2016, so the coin that replaced the old tenth ounce holds 3 grams rather than 3.11. Pandas struck before the change hold a full tenth of an ounce.
