This is an 1882 Queen Victoria Gold Sovereign, with the Young Head design by Royal Mint chief engraver William Wyon. Production of this coin ran between 1871 and 1887.
The reverse features the traditional George and Dragon design. The M mint mark above the year of issue denotes the Melbourne Mint in Australia; the second of three Royal Mint refineries opened in Australia during the Victorian era.
