Description

An 1825 Half Sovereign gold coin featuring King George IV, who reigned between 1820 and 1830.

During the King's reign there were two distinctive head styles - Laurel Head (featuring a wreath crown) and Bare Head. The Sovereign reverse features a shield back, which was preferred to the St George & Dragon design until 1887, during Queen Victoria's reign.
