1883 Half Sovereign Victoria Young Head Shield Back S

An 1883 Half Sovereign from the reign of Queen Victoria. This half sovereign features the Young head design by William Wyon on the obverse and the shield design on the reverse.  

The "S" mint mark denotes that the coin was minted at the Sydney Mint in Australia. This mint mark is found on the obverse of the coin, at the bottom and in between the two flower stops to its left and right. 

Approximately 220,000 of these Half Sovereign gold coins were produced, and it is a fairly common coin to come across today.
